indie Showcases 120 GHz Radar Technology at Hannover Messe 2026

indie once again participated in Hannover Messe, the world’s leading industrial trade show, bringing together global leaders, innovators, and decision-makers from across the manufacturing and technology sectors. Every year, it serves as a key platform for showcasing the latest developments in industrial transformation, smart manufacturing, and intelligent automation.

Throughout the show, we highlighted our latest advancements in high‑frequency radar sensing with an ultra‑compact MIMO radar designed for operation in the 120 GHz band. This frequency range enables significantly finer spatial resolution than conventional 60 GHz or 77 GHz systems, allowing engineers to extract more detailed range, velocity, and angular information from compact sensor footprints. indie’s 120 GHz radar technology enables integration of RF transceivers, baseband processing, and system control in a single device, targeting applications where size, precision, and robustness are critical. During the show, we showcased the architectural building blocks of the device, focusing on how wide instantaneous bandwidth, MIMO support, and tight RF‑digital integration translate directly into improved object separation, surface detail detection, and short‑range accuracy.

Stand demonstration of indie’s 120 GHz radar technology

The move to 120 GHz radar opens new sensing use cases that are difficult or impossible to achieve at lower frequencies, particularly in industrial, robotics, and emerging automotive use cases. Higher carrier frequency enables smaller antennas and denser virtual arrays, while a large modulation bandwidth supports millimeter-scale resolution—key for fine-feature detection, gesture recognition, and high-precision spatial awareness. indie’s 120 GHz radar technology is designed to help system architects exploit these advantages with practical hardware platforms and clear system‑level integration paths, reducing the barrier to adopting high‑frequency radar.

At Hannover Messe, indie demonstrated not only the technical feasibility of 120 GHz radar, but also its readiness for real‑world deployment, underscoring how this technology can redefine what radar sensors can measure and where they can be applied.

A strong trend observed throughout the conference was the growing influence of functional safety regulations—particularly IEC 61508, ISO 10218‑1, and ISO 13849‑1 (CE), which require an independent second sensing channel to ensure safe robotic operation. Radar is increasingly recognized as a strong candidate for this redundant channel. Customers particularly value validated, high‑level, and application‑ready radar information that can be directly integrated into their safety and control systems.

Anja Bölicke Delivering a Presentation at Hannover Messe

In addition to the live demonstrations, Anja Bölicke, Managing Director at indie Semiconductor FFO GmbH, delivered an insightful presentation that delved deeper into ultra-compact 120 GHz radar for next-gen cobots and robotics. Mrs. Bölicke discussed the capabilities of miniaturized 120 GHz MIMO radar, its advantages over conventional sensing approaches, and the current development status, including available hardware platforms, system integration aspects, and selected industrial use cases.

Our time at Hannover Messe was marked by high-quality discussions and an engaging atmosphere among industry peers and professionals. The combination of live demos, expert exchanges, and trend-focused discussions made the event a valuable opportunity for both learning and collaboration.
