Tunable Optical Filters – TFN

Patrice Dionne

Product Line Manager

The TFN Series tunable optical filters were specifically designed for highest-performance applications and benchmarking activities requiring precise and accurate narrowband filtering, with high wavelength stability. This platform enables the use of the narrowest optical bandwidths and/or steepest edges to surgically position the optical filter on demand, to either strongly suppress interferents or selectively collect critical signals.

Combined with indie’s expertise in Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) design features such as high isolation, high reflectivity, and low insertion loss, the TFN Series is unmatched when pushing the boundaries of science and engineering.

Key Features and Benefits

Precision Tuning:
The TFN Series is tunable over a range of ±30 GHz around the center frequency with a resolution of 2 pm (250 MHz at 1550 nm).

Wavelength Stability:
The TFN Series offer an inherent stability of 40 MHz peak-to-peak over 24h, with examples of integration using a feedback loop to optimize performance even further.

Sharp-Edged Profiles:
Both the narrowband flat-top filters and ultra-narrowband notch filters can exhibit very steep spectral edges. Combined with the tuning range and resolution of the TFN platform, this allows for the ultimate wavelength filtering precision.

High Optical Isolation:
High-end FBG design for maximized isolation: >25 dB (first side-lobe), typical >35 dB mean out-of-band, can be doubled in dual-FBG configuration.

Flexible Platform:
The TFN Series platform can be used for any filtering scheme, agnostic of FBG filter designs, from 700 to 2100 nm, allowing reflection and transmission, and supporting both SM and PM fibers.

Ultra-Narrow Bandwidth:
The TFN Series support reflection bandwidths as narrow as 30 MHz.
