C-Band Distributed Feedback Laser Diode – LXC

Patrice Dionne

Product Line Manager

This DFB laser diode exhibits an intrinsically narrow-linewidth and a flat frequency modulation response. It represents a key building block to achieve cost-efficient coherent sensing systems that usually rely on expensive narrow-linewidth lasers and external modulators.

The LXC is indie’s flagship DFB laser diode for integration into next-generation photonic sub-modules requiring narrow-linewidth lasers. This 2 mm x 4 mm chip-on-carrier includes a thermistor and can be mounted and coupled into compact optical engines, together with PICs and other components. Butterfly packages are available to accelerate the technology adoption.

Key Features and Benefits

High Coherence Length:
The DFB laser diode exhibits a typical 15 kHz linewidth, for a coherence length around 5 kms.

Flat Frequency Modulation Response:
With its flat frequency modulation response, the LXC enhances frequency chirp linearity optimization and enables precise optical frequency and phase locking.

Ultra-Compact and Stable:
The DFB laser diode is a monolithic semiconductor laser which does not rely on an external cavity to provide high coherence length.

High Optical Power:
The DFB laser diode can provide >120 mW optical power.

Simple and Efficient Frequency Modulation:
Direct current modulation of DFB laser diode represents a simple and power-efficient method to achieve frequency modulation.
